Audi TT was combined production of Volkswagen Group subsidiary AUDI AG and Audi Hungaria Motor Kft. Ever since day one, the Audi TT has been created as 2+2 Coupé (TT-C) or Roadster.
Overview
It is a powerful sporty Audi model, which comes with a special Haldex Traction-based Quattro drive, and a powerful front suspension that’s totally independent, thanks to MacPherson struts. The Audi TT shares its platform and several features with the Audi A4.
Audi TT derives its name from successful motor racing tradition of NSU in the British Isle of Man TT motorcycle race.
First Generation - TT Mk1 (Typ 8N, 1998-2006)
At the Volkswagen Group Design Center, the Audi TT design phase was kicked off during 1994 and within a year’s time, the TT Concept was showcased at the 1995 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The exterior design was done by Freeman Thomas and J Mays, while the credits of award-winning interior design were bagged by Romulus Rost and Martin Smith.
A number of high-speed accidents were reported in Europe due to instability of early TT at speeds in excess of 110mph. As a result, several changes had to be made to the current version of Audi TT, and the production of first generation TT models ended in June 2006.
Special Limited Edition TT Quattro Sport
A special limited edition model called the Audi TT Quattro Sport during the year 2005. It was alternatively known as the Audi TT Club Sport in European markets and hardly 800units of this special series Audi TT were sold in UK markets.
Second Generation - TT Mk2 (Typ 8J, 2006-Present)
The next generation of Audi TT started in 2006 and it hasn’t ended to date. These vehicles are powered by the internal designation Typ 8J engine, which was unveiled on 6 April 2006 by Audi.

The second generation vehicles got bigger and better as they were three inches wider and five inches longer than the first generation TT models.
Initially these cars were marketed with EA888 1.8 litre Turbocharged Fuel Stratified Injection (TFSI) in German market, and then additional options like multi-link fully independent rear suspension were added to these TT models in subsequent years.
Awards and Achievements
The second generation TT has been voted as Drive Car of the Year, Autobild Most Beautiful Car, Top Gear Coupé of the Year 2006, World Design Car of the Year 2007, and it has also bagged several other awards like Fifth Gear Car of the Year 2006,
The Audi TT RS has even been used as a safety car in 24 Hours of Le Mans race during the year 2009.
